About Us
SightMind is a national company dedicated to providing IP-based video surveillance (IPVS) solutions to schools, government agencies, and commercial/industrial facilities.
Two experienced business people in Northern California founded SightMind, in 2007. Angie Wong founded, owns and runs both an IT VAR business, Network Designs, and an IP video surveillance business, Ojo Technology. She has over fourteen years of successful business management experience, based on an MBA from San Jose State. Kim Rubin is a successful serial entrepreneur. Prior to SightMind he was founder and principal investor in intelliDOT, a system provider of IT systems for hospitals that verify the correct medication at the patient bedside. Prior to that he was cofounder in GreenSpring Computers, which was sold to SBS Technology, which was later sold to General Electric.
SightMind was founded with the goal of bringing highly reliable IP-based video surveillance systems to the major institutions and organizations in North America, including high schools, colleges, natural resources, utilities, transportation, public safety, shopping centers, industrial facilities, and large private sites. Legacy CCTV systems are being replaced and updated with modern, digital, networked systems. These IP-based systems provide extensive benefits to their owners, including expanded storage, higher reliability, high resolution sufficient to provide clear identification of people and vehicles, easier administration, cost savings, and customer service benefits far beyond the original security motivations.
However, the existing security and legacy analog CCTV providers have been unable to adapt to this new and demanding technology. With gigabit Ethernet, wireless links, and terabyte RAID storage arrays, complex IPVS systems are being installed by small companies specializing in IT.
This has resulted in a highly fragmented market, with over 6000 vendors and as many installers. The small, independent installers are struggling with the challenges of selling to institutional customers, keeping up with rapid product improvements, managing projects, and insufficient technical training and support. Customers have struggled with inconsistent or non-existent system standards, migration problems, lack of long-term support, and no national vendor they could trust.
SightMind has created a unique business structure based both on the proven success of Ojo Technology's highly structured service model built on open technology standards and the proven success of franchise-based management and growth.
Franchising is the most successful business model of the modern world. One of the reasons it has achieved such a remarkable record is that franchising creates an ideal partition of the business activities: those business processes that should be done in one place, such as R&D, process development and training, are completed at the corporate level and the results shared with every franchise.
The customer-facing activities such as system design, installation and local support are handled by a locally-owned business: the SightMind franchisee. This shared ownership and shared responsibility keeps everybody contributing strongly to the growth of the entire organization, yet provides each local owner with the benefits of his or her own hard work and commitment. Perhaps most valuable of all, this business structure preserves local ownership and control for assured customer satisfaction and community participation.
The customers benefit from this structure by having a highly motivated and committed local company providing service. Every customer, every site, and every system is unique. SightMind does not provide "packaged" systems, but rather provides the extensive training necessary so that each local IPVS engineer and installer can create an optimum solution for each local need. At the same time, customers are assured of a set of proven standards, the very best equipment and software, performance monitoring, ongoing R&D and the strongest national warranty in the industry.
SightMind does only one thing: IP-based video surveillance systems. This sharp focus allows us to provide this capability better, and more cost effectively, than anyone else.
IP-based video surveillance systems provide not only proven security benefits, but also site operational cost savings, labor savings, and customer service benefits beyond most customer's original expectations.
